Plenitude Completes Largest Photovoltaic Project in Spain with 330 MW Capacity
Plenitude has successfully completed the operational launch of Renopool, its largest photovoltaic project globally, situated in Extremadura, Spain. The project comprises a 200 MW southern block and a 130 MW northern plant, totalling an installed capacity of 330 MW. This milestone enhances Spains position as a vital market for the companys renewable expansion.
Constructed over approximately two years, the complex features around 565,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules and is forecasted to generate approximately 670 GWh of electricity annually. This production places it among the most significant photovoltaic developments in the Extremadura region.
The installation involved key industry players such as OHLA, Sacyr, and Sarpel, who contributed to solar plant development and electrical infrastructure. The northern segment began operations in 2025, and the completion of the southern unit now marks the projects full realisation.
Maria Angela Mollicone, General Director of Plenitude Renovables Spain and responsible for Western Europe, described Renopool as a strategic milestone, given its status as the largest photovoltaic project constructed by the group worldwide. She highlighted how the project strengthens the companys renewable asset portfolio in Spain, positioning the country as a strategic investment hub.
Beyond energy production, the project incorporated environmental and heritage protection measures. During construction, archaeologically significant findings from the Calcolithic period were respectfully catalogued and preserved in collaboration with local authorities. The company also advanced biodiversity conservation initiatives and partnered with Extremadura University and the Funpasos Foundation to conduct scientific studies on local fauna and soil quality for five years.
Renopool aligns with Plenitude's broader expansion strategy in Spain, where it has invested over one billion euros since 2021. The company has an overall capacity of about 1800 MW in renewables, with around 1250 MW operational, and over 500 MW under construction. The firm is also developing a substantial pipeline including 2 GW of additional projects.
Future plans include increasing energy storage capacity through battery solutions, vital for enabling higher renewable integration and system flexibility. The company is already exploring storage options for Renopool as part of a wider strategy to hybridise renewable installations across its Spanish and international portfolio.
Plenitude advocates for streamlining administrative procedures, advancing infrastructure deployment, digitising grids, and more efficient electricity system planning to support ongoing renewable growth, operational stability, and renewable energy adoption in Spain.
