Magnon Highlights Biomass as a Strategic Asset for Decarbonisation and Huelva s Role as a Renewable Energy Benchmark
Magnon, the renewable energy subsidiary of Ence, has been advocating for biomass as a key strategic asset in the current renewable energy landscape. The company s representatives underscored Huelva s role not only as a leader in this sector but also as a pioneering hub for renewable fuels overall.
During the summer course titled La Transicion Energetica y Las Renovables en Huelva y Su Provincia, organised by the Universidad Internacional de Andalucia at La Rábida campus, Magnon highlighted its commitment to advancing biomass as an essential component of the future energy mix. The company operates a renewable energy complex in Huelva which captures approximately 1.5 million tonnes of biogenic CO2 annually, a critical raw material for developing renewable fuels in the future.
Key company figures, including Jose Antonio Agüera, Director of Operations; Maria Jose Perez, Business Development and Projects Manager; and Macarena Borlan, Head of Operational Transformation, participated in the event. Jose Antonio Agüera emphasised that biomass is a fully manageable renewable resource capable of providing steady and reliable energy regardless of weather conditions. He noted that biomass also plays a crucial role in wildfire prevention by valuing agricultural and forestry residues. Furthermore, Agüera stressed that biomass opens pathways for producing renewable fuels vital for sectors such as aviation and maritime transport to achieve decarbonisation targets.
Maria Jose Perez added that biomass serves as the foundation for the future development of renewable fuels. She highlighted Magnon s pioneering projects aimed at capturing biogenic CO2 generated within their facilities and converting it into renewable fuels. Perez explained that this strategy enhances biomass value while reinforcing Spains industrial competitiveness, strategic autonomy, and industrial leadership in the renewable energy sector.
