Spanish Mobility Decisions Are Heavily Influenced by Sustainability Considerations
A recent survey reveals that two-thirds of the Spanish population consider sustainability a key factor when deciding on their mobility options. The survey conducted by Amovens in 2026 indicates that environmental impact has gained prominence as a decisive aspect in travel behaviour. People now assign an average rating of 3.74 out of 5 to sustainability, highlighting its emerging role in shaping mobility choices.
Interestingly, the importance of sustainability remains relatively consistent across different age groups. Younger adults aged between 21 and 34 assign an average score of 3.73, while those aged over 55 give a slightly lower but comparable score of 3.70. This consistency demonstrates that sustainability has become a universal criterion, transcending generational boundaries in Spains mobility decision-making.
The survey further reveals regional variations in the prioritisation of sustainability. The Canary Islands lead with an average score of 4.14, reflecting perhaps regional awareness or specific mobility conditions. Madrid follows closely with 4.05, whereas Catalonia exhibits a moderate emphasis with an average of 3.36. These differences may be influenced by available mobility options or territorial characteristics.
Gender differences also appear, with women showing a marginally higher sensitivity towards sustainability, scoring an average of 3.79 compared to 3.67 for men. This subtle disparity underlines evolving societal attitudes towards environmentally conscious mobility choices among different demographic groups.
Alberto Bajjali, CEO of Amovens, emphasises that responding to these sustainability demands involves better utilisation of existing resources. As the importance of sustainability continues to grow, mobility providers and policymakers are encouraged to focus on innovations that promote greener and more efficient travel options. The survey confirms that sustainability is not only a rising concern but also an integral part of the future of mobility in Spain, influencing decisions across all sectors and regions.
