Range Rover Electric: Redefining Luxury Off-Road Capability with Advanced Electric Architecture
The Range Rover Electric marks a significant milestone as the first entirely electric model in the history of the iconic British luxury SUV brand. Launched after more than five decades of tradition, it underscores the brands commitment to combining luxury with innovative zero-emission technology.
Built in Solihull alongside other powertrain variants, the model seeks to preserve the visual and structural identity of the Range Rover while embedding advanced electric architecture. It continues the brands philosophy: maintaining its core luxury and off-road capabilities before evolving into an electric form.
Performance figures are impressive, with dual permanent magnet motors producing a combined output of 550 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. This allows acceleration from zero to 100 km per hour in 4.5 seconds and an 80-120 km per hour sprint in 2.7 seconds, showcasing both sporty agility and smooth operation.
The vehicle employs an 800-volt architecture with a substantial 118.5 kWh usable battery capacity, featuring 344 prism-shaped cells. It offers an estimated range of 600 kilometres under homologation, with real-world figures around 535 kilometres according to JLRs assessment cycle.
Charging capabilities are also regarded as advanced, with high-speed DC charging supporting up to 350 kW. This enables the battery to go from 10-80 in approximately 22 minutes, and a 10-minute charge can recover up to 220 kilometres of range, vital for long-distance travel.
However, the true challenge for the Range Rover Electric lies in its off-road potential. British Land Rover has developed a specialised traction control system capable of reacting within 50 milliseconds, vastly superior to traditional systems which typically take several seconds. This innovation allows the vehicle to maintain stability and traction across challenging terrains.
Additional features include a wading depth of 900 millimetres and an ability to climb gradients up to 45 degrees. The vehicle adapts single-pedal driving to off-road conditions, facilitating precise low-speed control in difficult environments. Extensive testing over more than 1.5 million kilometres, including extreme cold and heat, has ensured durability and performance.
Despite the high technological investment, the manufacturing process retains the craftsmanship and premium quality expected of Range Rover. Priced from 163250 euros in Spain, it offers various trims and configurations, including short and long wheelbases and bespoke editions. This launch aims to prove that even ultra-luxury vehicles can transition seamlessly to electric power without compromising off-road capability or passenger comfort.
