Europe Inaugurates Largest Carbon Capture Plant in the Netherlands Driving Industrial Decarbonisation
The Netherlands has officially inaugurated Europe's largest industrial carbon capture and storage plant at Yaras Sluiskil facility. This project represents a landmark in cross-border collaboration establishing the first full value chain for capturing transporting and permanently storing CO2 across Europe. Yara Sluiskil recognised as Europe s largest fertiliser plant has the capacity to capture and liquefy up to 800 000 tonnes of CO2 annually. The captured CO2 originates from ammonia production and is transported by ship to Norway where it benefits from the Northern Lights project for permanent storage beneath the seabed. Over the next 15 years the project aims to capture approximately 12 million tonnes of CO2 aligning with European climate targets and supporting industrial transformation.
