Litera Meat s Growth and Sustainability Initiatives Drive Industrial Decarbonisation in the Meat Sector

Litera Meat, a company within the Pini Group specialised in pork processing, closed 2025 with a turnover of 924 million euros, marking an increase of 38 million euros from the previous year. This growth makes it the leading company in terms of turnover in the province of Huesca.

Despite facing an anti-dumping investigation by China, which will impose a 4.9 percent tariff on its pork exports to China for the next five years, the company has maintained a positive growth trajectory. This tariff is lower than others in the sector, which range from 9.8 percent to 19.8 percent.

The company s expansion is underpinned by its production of 387,000 tonnes of pork, most of which is exported. Approximately 23 percent of the production is sold domestically, 37 percent within the EU, and the remaining 40 percent is exported to markets such as China, South Korea, and the Philippines. Litera Meat exports to over 70 countries globally.

In 2025, the company processed four million pigs, with projections for 2026 estimating a slaughter of 4.5 million pigs. The company aims to sustain its growth, strengthen its ties within the Aragon region, and consolidate its position as a leading player in the pork industry both nationally and internationally.

Part of its strategic development includes a significant commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. The company has planned projects worth 20 million euros dedicated to renewable energy initiatives. These initiatives aim to enable the company to generate 100 percent of its energy requirements through its own renewable sources, significantly reducing reliance on external energy suppliers.

The company has already activated a new ground-mounted photovoltaic plant, complemented by the largest rooftop solar installation in Aragon. This combination allows Litera Meat to operate entirely on renewable energy, ensuring a lower carbon footprint and heightened energy independence.

Based in Binefar, the company employs around 1800 people, with more than 90 percent on permanent contracts. In 2025, the company strengthened its workforce by recruiting key personnel in strategic areas and launching new training programmes to enhance skills and productivity.

As part of the Pini Group, Litera Meat s growth aligns with the wider corporate strategy. The Group, which generates revenue of 2.2 billion euros, is also investing in energy, efficiency, and international expansion, including plans to build a new facility in Reggio Emilia, Italy, to increase production capacity for traditional Italian cured meats.

These initiatives reflect the broader industrial decarbonisation trends within the meat processing industry, emphasizing sustainable growth and energy transition as essential components of future competitiveness.
